Post Name: Entomologist Intern – Krishi GK Job Location: Bhopal Salary: ₹20,000 – ₹25,000 per month About the Role An Entomologist Intern in the Krishi GK project plays a critical role in managing insect-related issues, improving crop health, and supporting farmers with scientific pest control strategies. The role directly contributes to increasing agricultural productivity, reducing crop losses, and promoting sustainable farming practices. 1. Core Role of an Entomologist The Entomologist Intern will act as a pest management expert responsible for: Identifying insect pests and beneficial insects Advising on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies Supporting field teams and farmers with timely solutions Reducing crop losses caused by pest infestations Promoting sustainable and eco-friendly farming practices 2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Pest Identification & Monitoring Identify major crop pests at different crop growth stages Conduct field surveillance and pest scouting activities Monitor pest population trends and outbreak risks Differentiate between harmful and beneficial insects Support early detection and preventive pest management B. Advisory & Farmer Support Provide crop-specific pest control recommendations Suggest safe and effective pesticide usage (dose, timing, and application methods) Promote eco-friendly solutions such as bio-pesticides and neem-based products Guide and support farmers through: Call centers Mobile applications Field visits Chaupal meetings C. Data Collection & Analysis Record pest incidence data from field teams Analyze pest trends for early warning systems Support development of pest forecasting models Maintain pest-related databases for advisory improvement D. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Implementation Design and promote IPM practices including: Cultural Control Methods Crop rotation Field sanitation Resistant crop varieties Mechanical Control Methods Pest traps Handpicking Light traps Biological Control Methods Use of beneficial organisms Trichoderma and other bio-control agents Chemical Control Methods Judicious and safe pesticide usage Resistance management practices Objective Reduce dependency on harmful chemicals Promote sustainable pest management practices E. Training & Capacity Building Provide technical training and guidance to: Field Executives Tele-callers (for advisory accuracy) Farmers through Chaupal meetings and demonstrations Additional responsibilities include: Developing training materials and SOPs Preparing educational videos and awareness content F. Digital Advisory Support Contribute to digital agriculture initiatives such as: Mobile application advisory support Pest alerts and notification systems FAQ and knowledge-base content development Validation of pest-related farmer queries G. Pest Outbreak Management Identify early signs of pest outbreaks Recommend rapid response and containment strategies Coordinate with field teams for on-ground implementation Support emergency pest advisory communication H. Reporting & Documentation Prepare and maintain: Daily reports Weekly reports Advisory notes Field observations Success and failure case studies Project reporting and impact analysis documents 3. Skills & QualificationsEducational Qualification B.Sc. / M.Sc. in Entomology, Agriculture, or related field Freshers and final-year students may apply Technical Skills Knowledge of crop pests and pest management practices Understanding of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Basic knowledge of pesticides and bio-control methods Data recording and reporting skills Familiarity with digital advisory platforms is an added advantage Soft Skills Good communication and farmer interaction skills Analytical and problem-solving ability Team coordination skills Willingness to travel for field visits 4.
