About the Role

Position Overview We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Intern – Payload Design to join our interdisciplinary UAV engineering team. The ideal candidate will contribute to the conceptualization, design, integration, and validation of payload subsystem architectures for UAV platforms. The role involves working across mechanical, electrical, and system-level interfaces while supporting rapid prototyping, testing, documentation, and subsystem optimization activities. Job Description Payload Subsystem Design & Development Assist in the design and development of payload subsystem architectures for UAV applications. Support subsystem integration activities considering structural, thermal, electrical, and operational constraints. Contribute to concept generation, prototyping, and design iterations for proof-of-concept implementations. Participate in preparation of CAD models, design layouts, and engineering documentation. System Integration & Engineering Collaboration Work closely with cross-functional teams including Mechanical, Electronics, Embedded Systems, Controls, and Manufacturing teams. Understand subsystem interfaces, mounting strategies, packaging constraints, and system compatibility requirements. Support integration planning, assembly activities, and subsystem validation. Analysis, Testing & Validation Assist in subsystem-level testing, validation, and performance evaluation. Support data collection, result interpretation, and preparation of technical reports. Participate in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective improvements. Correlate observed system behavior with design intent and engineering fundamentals. Prototyping & Manufacturing Exposure Support rapid prototyping activities using additive manufacturing and conventional fabrication techniques. Gain exposure to DFM, DFA, tolerance considerations, and practical engineering constraints. Contribute to prototype build activities and subsystem refinement. Documentation & Continuous Improvement Maintain structured documentation of designs, test results, observations, and development activities. Contribute to process improvements, design standardization, and knowledge-sharing initiatives. Stay updated with advancements in UAV payload technologies, subsystem integration methods, and engineering tools. Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree (pursuing/completed) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, Electronics, Robotics, or related disciplines. Basic understanding of engineering fundamentals related to mechanical systems, structures, electronics integration, and subsystem design. Exposure to CAD tools such as Creo (preferred) or SolidWorks is advantageous. Familiarity with prototyping methods, testing approaches, and engineering documentation practices. Understanding of system-level thinking, design trade-offs, and multidisciplinary engineering concepts is an added advantage. Exposure to data analysis, simulation tools, or scripting/programming is an added advantage. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
