Apprentice - Experimentation & Systems Engineering
Job Description
About the Role
As an Apprentice - Experimentation & Systems Engineering at Origin, you'll be part of a talented team working on cutting-edge robotics technology for the construction industry. Your primary responsibility will be to design and run controlled experiments on robotic drywall finishing processes, using hypothesis-driven and DOE-based approaches to identify and isolate variables that impact the system's performance.
Working alongside process and robotics engineers, you'll set up instrumentation and measurement workflows, maintain repeatability and reproducibility discipline, and document observations rigorously to convert trial results into clear experiment logs, test reports, and result summaries.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and run controlled experiments on robotic drywall finishing processes using hypothesis-driven and DOE-based approaches.
- Identify and isolate independent, dependent, controlled, and confounding variables across physical trials.
- Set up instrumentation and measurement workflows; maintain repeatability and reproducibility discipline.
- Document observations rigorously and convert trial results into clear experiment logs, test reports, and result summaries.
- Analyse cross-system interactions across the robot arm, end-effector, sensors, surface material, and motion parameters to support debugging and process improvement.
- Collaborate with the engineering team to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies for process optimization.
Skills & Qualifications
- B.E./B.Tech/M.E./M.Tech in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical/Electronics, Industrial, Aerospace, or Systems Engineering.
- 6 months to 2 years of hands-on industry or research experience in an engineering or robotics environment.
- Demonstrated experimentation experience in a research lab environment is required.
- Understanding of experimental methods, control systems, statistics/DOE, and system design through coursework or projects.
- Basic knowledge of robotics systems, electromechanical assemblies, sensors, instrumentation, and calibration concepts.
- Ability to work with engineering data from physical trials and perform basic statistical analysis and interpretation.
- Strong documentation skills — ability to produce structured test reports, experiment logs, and result summaries.
What You'll Learn
In this role, you'll gain hands-on experience in designing and running controlled experiments, working with robotics systems, and collaborating with a talented team of engineers. You'll also develop your skills in data analysis, statistical interpretation, and documentation, which will be valuable in your future career.
As a member of the Origin team, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to the development of technology that will revolutionize the construction industry, and work alongside experienced professionals who are passionate about making a real-world impact.
Resume Tip
When applying for this role, make sure to highlight your hands-on experience in experimentation, data analysis, and documentation. Emphasize your ability to work with robotics systems, and your understanding of experimental methods, control systems, and statistics. Use specific examples from your past experiences to demonstrate your skills and qualifications.
Also, be sure to tailor your resume to the specific requirements of the job, and use keywords from the job description to help your application pass through applicant tracking systems (ATS).
