Fresher accountant roles cover the day-to-day financial operations of a business — journal entries, ledger maintenance, invoice processing, bank reconciliation, and supporting month-end or year-end closing under a senior accountant's guidance. A B.Com, M.Com, or equivalent degree is the baseline expectation, and practical comfort with accounting software (Tally, Zoho Books, or QuickBooks depending on the company) matters as much as theoretical knowledge from coursework. Basic understanding of GST, TDS, and standard compliance requirements is increasingly expected even at the fresher level, since most small and mid-sized companies can't afford to train this from scratch. Fresher accountant salaries typically range ₹2.4–4.5 LPA, with CA-articleship experience or a strong Tally/Excel skillset pushing offers toward the top of that range. To stand out, be fluent in Excel beyond basic formulas — pivot tables and VLOOKUP specifically come up constantly in fresher accounting interviews, since so much reconciliation work still happens in spreadsheets alongside the accounting software.
