Backend Interns
Job Description
About the Role
As a Backend Intern at TrueFoundry, you’ll dive into building the control plane that routes, orchestrates, and governs AI workloads across multiple models and tools. Your day will involve writing scalable Python services, designing gRPC and REST APIs, and collaborating with the Kubernetes-based compute layer to ensure seamless deployment of machine learning models.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain Python microservices that expose gRPC and REST endpoints for model routing and agent orchestration.
- Implement intelligent routing logic with cost‑aware policies, fallback mechanisms, and observability hooks.
- Integrate third‑party tools via MCP protocols, ensuring secure lifecycle management and compliance with SOC 2/HIPAA standards.
- Collaborate with the DevOps team to containerize services using Docker, deploy them on Kubernetes, and set up CI/CD pipelines.
- Write unit and integration tests, and contribute to automated monitoring dashboards for latency and error rates.
- Assist in designing and updating Thrift/Protobuf schemas for inter‑service communication.
- Participate in code reviews, knowledge sharing sessions, and sprint planning to align with product vision.
Skills & Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Python programming and familiarity with asynchronous frameworks (e.g., asyncio, FastAPI).
- Basic understanding of Kubernetes concepts (pods, services, deployments) and experience with Docker containers.
- Exposure to gRPC, REST APIs, and protocol buffers; hands‑on experience with Thrift is a plus.
- Knowledge of relational (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and non‑relational (MongoDB/Redis) databases.
- Familiarity with cloud services, especially AWS (Lambda, S3, IAM) and experience with serverless patterns.
- Interest in machine learning fundamentals, LLMs, and RAG pipelines; prior coursework or projects in NLP is advantageous.
- Good grasp of software engineering best practices: version control (Git), unit testing, and documentation.
What You’ll Learn
Working on TrueFoundry’s AI Gateway will expose you to the full stack of a production AI platform—from model routing and governance to Kubernetes‑native deployment. You’ll gain hands‑on experience with distributed systems, observability, and compliance‑centric design, skills that are highly sought after in the emerging GenAI ecosystem.
Resume Tip
Include a concise project section that showcases a small-scale end‑to‑end ML deployment: describe the model, the containerization steps, the API you built, and any performance metrics you achieved. This concrete example demonstrates your ability to translate ML concepts into production‑ready code, a key requirement for this internship.
